W3 Gallery

W3 Gallery – April 2023

In April 2023 I exhibited at the Acton Open at the W3 Gallery, a local showcase that brings together artists connected to the Acton area. For this exhibition I chose to present my Vis-à-vis Acton piece, a layered photographic work that celebrates Acton’s rich transportation links.

The composition brings together multiple views of Acton’s stations, from Underground to Overground to mainline rail. Each element was photographed separately and carefully blended to create a dynamic visual map of movement, connection, and identity. The work reflects my fascination with the way transport shapes our sense of place, and how the rhythm of daily travel becomes part of the character of a community.

Showing this piece in a local context was particularly rewarding. Visitors often recognised familiar landmarks and shared personal stories connected to the stations in the image, turning the artwork into a conversation piece about shared experiences and collective memory. The Acton Open was an opportunity to connect with my own community, to celebrate the everyday infrastructure that binds it together, and to see how art can transform the ordinary into something layered and meaningful.

W3 Gallery - July 2024

In July 2024 I returned to the W3 Gallery for the Acton Open, this time exhibiting four works from my ongoing Not People series: Saem Do Castelo, Ecos Académicos, The Affair, Reversed, and Drinks By The Thames A.

The Not People series explores human presence without centring on the individual. These images focus on atmosphere, movement, and collective energy rather than portraits or identifiable figures. Each piece captures a moment in which people are present yet anonymous, allowing the viewer to project their own interpretations and narratives.

For the Acton Open, I chose works that offered different settings and moods within the series. From the historic textures of Saem Do Castelo to the academic echoes in Ecos Académicos, from the layered intrigue of The Affair, Reversed to the social ease of Drinks By The Thames A, the selection was intended to create a varied yet cohesive conversation on how we inhabit and move through shared spaces.

Presenting these works within a local exhibition allowed me to see how viewers responded to scenes both familiar and unfamiliar, and how anonymity in imagery can invite deeper engagement. The Acton Open once again provided a space to share work with a supportive and diverse audience, reinforcing the value of community-focused exhibitions in keeping art connected to everyday life.
